The Lions Eye Institute for Transplant & Research, Inc. has over 20 years experience in developing other tissue procurement systems and meeting the needs of research customers. The new ORBS system is a much improved method of providing tissue in a market that demands closer attention to the needs of molecular biological and functional genomic studies.

The ORBS system facilitates development that procures, prepares, and distributes human eye tissue for biomedical research to academic, government, and industry markets. The aim of the endeavor is to develop a research facility in which human donor tissue specimens which will be correlated with the ORBS database of clinical, statistical, and scientific information. This will provide the fundamental material upon which clinical and laboratory research will introduce new drugs and diagnostic tools.

The ORBS system will leverage its existing relationship with a fifteen eye bank partner programs to secure exclusive sources of tissue. By establishing partner program relationships we will insure consistent volume and supply to our research associates.
